Everyone knows that Fall is a spectacular time in New England, and New Milford is a great place to explore its splendor.  If you are an outdoor enthusiast, it’s even more perfect,  with many activities to enjoy as you experience the best of the great outdoors.

Start slow with a walk through Town Green.  It’s a classic New England Green, bordered by many historic homes, churches, and shops.  On Saturdays, you can explore our Farmer’s Market, where you are guaranteed the freshest food finds. From fall harvests to the best apple cider donuts around, you can prepare to get moving as you head to your first adventure.

The Downtown-Riverfront Loop of the New Milford River Trail.  A one-mile loop that showcased the beauty of our town and the Housatonic River,  this walk eases you in.  You start at our historic Town Hall, walk towards Bridge Street, then along the sidewalks on Bridge Street to Young’s Field Road.  Use the crosswalk to enter the new Riverside Park.  Take in the splendor of the fall leaves reflecting on the Houston River and the beautiful views of the rolling hills that make up the landscape across the river.  At the end of the trail, cross over to Patriot’s Way.  When you reach the Railroad Station building use crosswalks to Bank Street.  Walk up Bank Street and take the time to peruse the shops and restaurants.  Cross the historic Village Green back to Town Hall.  Don’t forget to explore our town bandstand, a hallmark of our town.  (it’s the perfect place for a selfie).

Golfing at Candlewood Valley Country Club – Get in 9 or 18 holes at this beautiful club that invites you to experience their challenging and scenic 18 Hole Public Golf Course with impeccable course conditions, and a team of dedicated professionals who will give you our “unmatched signature guest service” on all levels.  What could make for a better afternoon than golfing in the cool weather surrounded by fall leaves?  We’re proud to say that Candlewood Valley Country Club offers Accessible and Adaptive golf, as well.

Don’t miss a chance to explore Pratt Nature Center.  You can explore mountains and meadows, woods and wetlands, gardens and even a small farm.  You can climb Mt. Tom to get a fabulous view of Litchfield County,  or visit the Aspatuck River and even visit Native American Cave dwellings. You can print out a trail map and find the perfect places to explore.

Start your next day off right  Kayaking at The Reservoir – bring your Kyack and your fishing pole to this hidden gem of a park.   Nestled in a quiet area, this park not only has a beautiful lake but an easy to moderate 1.2-mile hiking trail.   This is the ideal quiet place to kayak, fish, and bask in the Fall beauty surrounding the pond.

Save the best for last, and visit Lovers Leap State Park to experience the splendor of a fiery tree-shrouded gorge and magnificent trails. There are  3 easy to moderate trails throughout the park, but the one to NOT MISS  during the Fall is the Overlook Trail.   The amazing Iron Bridge is the best backdrop to snap a perfect photo for your holiday cards.

Remember to snap lots of photos of the fantastic views that you enjoyed during your amazing Autumn Adventures in New Milford, to look back on and use while planning your next trip.
