The Housatonic Range Trail or ‘HuRT’ runs from Gaylordsville in New Milford down to the top of Candlewood Mountain. There are multiple trail heads as the whole trail is 6.2 miles long. It is suggested to hike the trail in portions such as the Candlewood Mountain section that leads to Kelly’s Slide & Lookout Point. This is a moderate to strenuous trail. Take caution especially with children as there are many rock formations that came become slippery when wet. Overall the trails are very rewarding offering spectacular views of New Milford and a variety of wildlife. The middle section of the trail runs behind Tori’s Cave and also connects to it through side trails. The whole trail is blue blazed and there are multiple parking spots along the 6.2 mile trail. This is a wilderness trail so hazards such as deer ticks are present. Keeping a watchful eye for other bigger animals is recommended.
